Mother Adell B. Outley, 89, transitioned peacefully from her earthly home in Kansas City, Missouri to her heavenly home on December 24, 2017. She was born October 28, 1928 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Allen Brown, Sr. and Gertrude Williams. Adell was the fifth child of fourteen children. She was preceded in death by both parents; her granddaughter, Angela Renee' Lister; five brothers Thelmon Brown, Allen Brown, Jr., Addison Brown, Evans Brown and Jurden Brown; and four sisters Sara Brown, Gertrude Brown, Florzell Beecham, and Loretha Morris.
Adell accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at the New Kingdom Baptist Church in Yazoo City, Mississippi. After high school she moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined the Greenwood Baptist Church under the late Rev. McKinley Dukes. In 1956, she joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. E. H. Branch. She served in many ministries within the church such as Choir, Mission, Hostess and First Aid. She also served as Vacation Bible School and Sunday School teachers. She loved going to Bible Study. In 2014, Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield, II appointed her to the Mother Board. Adell loved the Lord. She had a very giving spirit and was known for sharing whatever she had with others.
Adell received her education in Durant, Mississippi where she graduated from Durant High School. In 1945 she received her Cosmetology License from Madam C. J. Walker Beauty School. In 1964 she obtained her license in Hair Weaving from Ms. Alexander Hair Weaving School in Chicago, IL. She was the first African American female to do hair weaving in Kansas City, Mo. Adell enjoyed learning; she enhanced her skills by attending Real Estate School and received her license in 1972. In 1985 she attended Nursing School and received her CNA license.
In 1946, she married Leonard W. Lister, Sr. Three daughters and one son were born from this union. This marriage was later dissolved. In 1960 Adell married Ollie Outley, Jr. and two sons were born from this union.
Adell leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Ollie Outley, Jr.; three sons, Leonard W. Lister, Jr. and Oliver Outley, both of Kansas City, MO, and Ollie Outley, III (Vickie) of Milwaukee, WI; three daughters, Rose Ann Thompson (Thomas), Anita Bell and Onita Bradley (James) all of Kansas City, MO; one stepdaughter, Esther Outley of Waco, TX; one brother, Gonzales Brown of Kansas City, MO; three sisters, Evangelist Fannie Stewart of Oakbrook, IL, Kaye L. Horton of Grandview, MO, and Agnes M. Remon of Maywood, IL; brothers and sisters in-law, Robert Outley Sr. (Sally of Kansas City, MO, Billy Joe Outley of Waco, TX, and Georgia M. Brown of Broadview, IL; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services Saturday, January 6, 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.Visits: 0
