Albert L.
Rush, Sr.
Jan 19, 1945 — Nov 24, 2018
Albert Lee Rush, Sr., 73, passed away on November 24, 2018 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Born on January 19, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the eldest son of Theodore Davis and youngest son of Virginia Lee Goldsby. He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandmother, Mabel Davis; maternal grandfather, Maupins; son, Albert Lee Rush, Jr.; son-in-law, Kevin Logan, Sr.; granddaughter, Latoya Wright; brother, Theodore Friends; aunts Martha Redmond, Julianne Nixon and Myrtle Rimmer.
Albert was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri school district attending Lincoln High School. He was a family man who took good care of his children. He was a very hard worker, and was very good and quick with his hands. He could build almost anything. Albert worked in construction, and was a welder and iron worker for JE Dunn until he retired in the early 90's due to an fatal accident while working on the AT&T building downtown KC. Some of the buildings he helped build were Sears and Roebuck's, Crown Center, and Town Pavilion to name a few. Once he retired he could always find him on top of someone's rooftop working or doing yard work as he absolutely loved it.
Albert was also very athletic, fast and quick on his feet. He was an awesome basketball player and could have gone Pro easily playing locally for Council Groves and other clubs, winning many trophies which could be found in his mother's collections of his awards. Albert was always on somebody's basketball court schooling the young folks and showing off his moves. He also boxed for Golden Gloves for many years and received plenty of awards there as well. He was a very strong man who enjoyed working out and weight lifting.
Albert's favorite holiday was 4th of July where he would spend hundreds of dollars on fireworks for his grandchildren when they were coming up. He loved his grandchildren so much; they were named by him the "Get It Gang". He would load them up in his truck take them off for candy, treats and a ride through the city. Albert was also a big fan of professional wrestling, often taking his family to wrestling matches downtown and would also travel to St Joseph. He absolutely loved to watch his sports, basketball being his favorite but loved football and baseball too. He loved to spend time with family at family events playing dominoes and spades talking big stuff while doing it. Albert had a gift to make you laugh even when he was talking about you, a real jokester. He always was full of jokes and laughter. He would laugh so much while trying to tell a joke that it would frustrate you but you still had to hear that ending!
Albert was married to Joyce McBride on October 18, 1965 and their union produced four children: Angie, Lynn, Reshe and Albert, Jr. (known as Pooh-Pie) who preceded him in death. This marriage resulted in dissolution and he later married Karita Walker. Three boys were born to this union Adam, Al, Alex. The marriage was also dissolved.
Albert leaves to cherish his memory his children: three daughters, Angela Rush-Hylton (Gary),Andria Lynn Rush (Jermaine), Arisha Logan and four sons, Carl Bradley (Sherri), Adam Rush (Sharita), Al Rush and Alex Rush; sisters, Jeanette Jacobs, Deborah Friends, and Thelma Friends; brothers, James Rush and Tony Friends; uncle Barry Maupins; special cousin, Verschell "Suga"; dear friend Butch; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
