Alberta was born June 12, 1944 in Canton, Mississippi to James and Verneda Garrett. She married William Black in December 1960, and three children were born to this union.
She received her education from Sharberg Grade School, Central and Lincoln High School.
She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She served on the Mother Board and on the kitchen committee.
Alberta was preceded in death by both parents, Ex-husband William Black; 1 grandson Phillmon Phonto; 2 great granddaughters, Janyah Janae, and Reign Lee; one nephew, David McDaniel.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 4 children, Marvin Black (Cotenzie), Lorraine Black, Tango Black, and Jonnella Jones; 12 grandchildren-Jasmine Shanae MaKayla Evon, Marvin Jr., Ashley La'Reshen Orlashous, Kerronn Keith, Talicia Renee, Jordan Lee, Denzel Rashad, Paul Jr., Alex Craig and Alexis Janae; 11 great grandchildren-Karter Keith, Quinton Williams, Ja'Kye, Ishyia, Shanae, Jayden Simone, Dominick, Daeshawn, Ben Sanai Reign, Alex Craig III and 1 on the way; 1 brother, Jimmie L. Garrett Sr. (Essie), 1 sister, Osie Bell Smith; 1 nephew, Jimmie L. Garrett Jr. (Barbara); 2 nieces, Deborah E. Garrett, Phyllis McConell, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be Friday, December 11, at 2:00 pm at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Private disposition. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Services will be LIVESTREAMED MSTCSUNSET.com
