Obituary

Alice Marie Batts, 73, was born January 29, 1945 in Prairie Hill, Texas. She was the youngest daughter of the late Gilbert and Mary Alice Thompson.

Alice attended Waco Public Schools where she graduated from G.W. Carver High School in 1964. She later graduated from Waco Cosmetology School. Shortly thereafter Alice met and married the love of her life, Fred W. Batts.

Alice accepted Christ at an early age and was raised in a Christian home. After moving to Kansas City, she became a member of the Christ Is The Answer Ministry, where the late Elder Theodore Byrd was the pastor. Forty years ago in September of 1978, Alice united with Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan.

Her work history includes working as a cosmetologist for several years. She also worked at Research Medical Center. Her most recent employment was at Honeywell FM&T, where she worked for thirty-three years until retiring in 2010.

Alice departed this life on September 1, 2018 at K.U. Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, German Thompson, Doyle Thompson, Gilbert Thompson, Jr. and Brainerd Thompson; sisters, Helen Thompson and Mattie Ray Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her beloved husband, Fred W. Batts; daughter, Freda R. Jefferson (Bobby); granddaughter, Fallon Jefferson and great granddaughter, Averi Marie. She also leaves the family matriarch, her sister Mother Jewel Mitchell and siblings, Tony Thompson and Luvein Thompson all of Waco, TX. She will be sorely missed by her precious cousin, Nancy Escoe; devoted God-daughter, Angie Huntley; three sisters-in-law, a of host of nephews and nieces, many former co-workers from Honeywell FM&T as well as other family members and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, September 15, 11:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
