Alice Carrie Mae (Mitchell) Foster, 91, passed away on April 16, 2019 at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was born January 12, 1928 to Eliza and Lucious Mitchell in Kansas City, MO. After many years, Eliza married Lee Stewart and she raised, Alice along with her brother Edward B. Mitchell and sister Betty Jean Stewart Brown. All have preceded her in death. Alice was a proud and loving parent to Stephen G. Ward and Ruby Grier Banks. Stephen preceded her in death in 1974.
Alice attended R.T. Coles Junior High and Vocational School in Kansas City, where she met Preston Pollard whom she would later marry until his death. She then married Marvin Grier and to this union one daughter, Ruby, was born and like her father, Marvin raised both Ruby and Stephen. She would later marry Paul M. Foster, Sr. and remained a faithful and loving wife until his death.
Alice received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from General Hospital #2 School for Practical Nurses in 1956. Her nursing career included caring for patients at Leeds Tuberculosis Hospital, Wheatley Provident Hospital, Research Medical Center, and the Western Missouri Mental Health Center where she retired after 30+ years of psychiatric nursing. In July of 2009, the Missouri State Board of Nursing recognized her for having served the Profession of Nursing faithfully for over 50 years.
Alice maintained her membership with the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church of Kansas City until her illness left her unable to attend. The family wishes to acknowledge members who came out and provided the Lord's Supper to her. The family would also like to express sincere gratitude to the KC Hospice staff for their exceptional comfort and support.
She leaves to mourn her passing: a daughter Ruby Banks, granddaughter RaShondra Banks and niece Terry L. Brown who have been faithful caregivers, along with her grandson Rickey Banks (Shaketta) and great grandchildren, Dameria, Rickey, Ryn and Raven; family members Ruby Bruce, Aggie Thompson, Michael Lopez (Monica) and Anthony Mitchell (Darlene) and a host of many friends.
