Obituary

Alvin Henderson was born on December 18, 1949 in Sunflower County, MS to the union of George Lee Henderson Sr. and Loni Mae Nolden. He graduated from Gentry High School in Indianola, MS. Alvin accepted Christ at an early age and re-established his relationship with Christ and joined Sheffield Family Life Center (Pastor George W. Westlake III Kansas City, MO)

Alvin later pursued his military career and joined the army. He was awarded a Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. After returning to the US Alvin married his High School sweetheart, Beverly Bernard in 1972. After relocating to Kansas City, MO Alvin returned to the Air Force Reserves to continue to serve his country and later retired after 21 years; along with dedicating 25 years to Hallmark Cards.

Alvin preceded in death his father and mother George Lee Henderson, Sr. and Loni Mae Henderson. He leaves to cherish his memory and carry his legacy, the love of his life Beverly Bernard Henderson and his lovely mother in law Bertha Bernard. Two sons, Bryan Henerson (Tulsa, OK) and Marcus (Michelle) Henderson (Scottsdale, AZ). Two daughters, Tanya Henderson and Shana Henderson (Kansas City, MO). Six grandchildren, Kaelyn Henderson, Asisah Henderson-Wilson, Imari Henderson, Treshoun Berry, Nakai Teague and Kaden Mathis. He also leaves behind five brothers, George Henderson, Charles (Marjorie) Henderson, L.D. Henderson (Hephzibah, GA), Richard (Deborah) Henderson (Jackson, MS) and Michael Henderson (Olive Branch, MS). Seven sisters, Ora Henderson, Daisy M. Lewis (Hazelcrest, IL), Shirley Henderson (Gary, IN), Bonnie (Angel) Pozo, Doris Lee (Atlanta, GA), Phillis (Terry) Davis (Greenwood, MS) and Mary (Howard) Spencer (Indianola, MS). Six in laws, Pastor Thomas (Patricia) Bernard (Jackson, MS), L.C. Bernard, Byron Bernard and Gwendolyn Battle (Hattisburg, MS), Arthur (Judith) Bernard (Jacksonville, FL) and Doris Bernard (Md Byou, MS). A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. A special mention to a special adopted daughter and grandson, Tammie Griffin and James W. Howard III.

Funeral services Saturday, April 14, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
