Andrea
Hancock-Maple
Dec 7, 1955 — May 22, 2017
Andrea Yvette Hancock-Maple, 61, KCMO, passed away on May 22, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospice House. She was born December 7, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri to Herbert and Mary Strong. She was preceded in death by both parents. Andrea accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age, and was baptized and saved at St. Matthew AME Zion Church. She completed her education in the Kansas City, Missouri School District and was quite fond of her times at Paseo High School. Andrea completed her secondary education at Central Missouri State University with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. She worked for The Center for Developmentally Disabled as an Human Resource Associate. Andrea, also known as Ange, Mom, and Grams to her family and those that were fortunate enough to be known as her friends, was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, loyal friend, and dedicated daughter. Ange/Mom would do whatever she could for those that she cared about. She remained the epitome of love for countless people in her life. She loved her family immensely. She cared for her parents nonstop until the end of both of their journeys. She remained the best sister she could be, loving her three brothers with an endless love. Andrea's favorite thing was spending time with her family and if you wanted to find her she was with one of her sons, daughters in-law, grandchildren, or cousin Rhonda. Andrea loved being a grandmother and would spend countless hours with her grandchildren, and all you would hear was 'Grams' this or 'Grams' that, causing her to always smile. Andrea leaves to cherish her memories: two sons Rafiq McKinney (La' Shawn), Rafael Wilson-Hancock (Deneane); daughter Monique Maple; grandchildren Rafiq Jr. 'Lil Man', Azandrea 'Zanny', Ami, Amari, Ailey 'LilLady', Denaya, Daylin, Jaylin, Leaya, Kelani and AunJanay; three brothers William 'Gerald' Hancock (Joyce), Eric Hancock (Betty), and Tyrone Strong (Gail); sister/cousin Rhonda Tunley (Leroy); countless cousins and other family members. Andrea also leaves many special sons, Amanuel Britton, Charles Whitebear, Arian Smith, Jerome Bausby and many more too numerous to name. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 27, 12:00 p.m. at St. Matthew A.M.E. Church. Private disposition. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
