Anna Belle Momon was born September 11, 1919 to the parents of Clarence and Madge Gaines, on 53rd & Agnes in Kansas City Mo., this area in Kansas City was known as the Mozier Place /Dunbar neighborhood. Anna was the first born of four brothers and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Madge Gaines, her husband O.D. Momon Sr., brothers Clarence Gaines, Roy Gaines, Leon Gaines, her sister Ollie Mae Carter, son O.D. Momon Jr., daughter, Sylvia Smith daughter-in-law Grace Momon, son-in-law Kenneth Gentry,and her grandson Bryan Gentry.
Anna accepted Christ at an early age at South Side First Baptist Church where her grandparents Martin and Sarah Gaines were one of the founding members.
Anna attended Phyllis wheatly Grade school in the neighborhood at the 54th St. location. She attended Lincoln High School in which she and neighborhood friends walked from 54th St. to Lincoln High on 22nd Woodland.
Anna was united in holy matrimony at South Side First Baptist Church to O.D. Booker T. Momon, (deceased). From this union four children were born, Frances, O.D. Jr.(deceased) Norma, and Sylvia (deceased).
While devoting her time as mother and homemaker she also worked several jobs, she was one of the first to work in the Head Start Program when it originated, she retired from General Service Administration and also retired as a Paraprofessional in the Kansas City Mo. School District.
Anna was always willing to help anyone and during the holidays would assemble baskets to distribute to families in need. She never drove but could take the bus anywhere she wanted to go. She also enjoyed walking, and would do many of her errands walking from her home on 24th St. to Linwood and Prospect.
Anna was very active. She maintained her beautiful yard well into her eighties. She was babysitter for her grand and great children, and if anyone was sick or in need she was definitely there to help.
Anna served on the Senior Women's Missionary Union at Zion Grove Baptist Church many years, she is currently a member of St. James United Methodist Church.
Anna has touched many lives lives through her years and leaves a wonderful legecy to her family and we will cherish these memories forever.
Anna is survived by her daughters, Frances Gentry of Raytown, Norma Flowers , ( John) Raytown, Willie Smith; son -in-law, Kansas City grandsons, Derrick Gentry, Kansas City, Rodney Gentry (Tammie) Lee's Summit, Leslie Flowers Wilson (John Wesley Wilson) Kansas City, Nicole Flowers, Raytown, Orlando Momon, Kansas City, Ritchie Momon (Dorthea) Lee's Summit, Ronnie smith, (Kelly) Grandview Mo., Darrell Smith; special friend (Debbi Smallwood), Raytown, seventeen great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren, special niece Debra Carter, and a host of many nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Funeral service Friday, February 7, 2020, 10:00 at St. James United Methodist Church. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Family Hour 9:30 -10:00 am at the church. Service conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
