Obituary

Annie B. Stevenson, 81, KCMO, passed away on January 18, 2017. 'Madea', as she was affectionately known, was born March 30, 1935 in Rayville, Louisiana to the union of J. McClanahan and Ora D. Simmons. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ora D. Whatley; sister, Edith jean Leach; and her eldest and most cherished son, Ronald Stevenson. Annie was educated in the public schools of Louisiana. She confessed her belief in Christ at an early age was baptized on a plantation in Louisiana. Annie moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1955 in hopes of making a better life for her children. Over the years she had joined other churches, but when she went to Greater Pentecostal Temple she found a church home for what would become over fifteen years. Annie worked numerous jobs over the years varying from domestic work to cooking for some of the best restaurants on the plaza. In 1990, Annie returned to school to earn her CNA certification. She then worked in the medical field for as long as her health allowed. Annie was an 'old country girl'. she still drank out of glass jars, enjoyed southern cooking and her greatest joy was fishing. She could go on and on about the love she shared with others and that she wanted her children to have towards one another. She will truly be missed and that yellow house on the corner will never be the same! She leaves to celebrate her homegoing: two sons, Anthony Baker and Donald Stevenson; six daughters, Joyce Leach, Ora Stevenson; Ernestine Boswell (Norvelle), Veverly Baker (Glen), Valerie Baker, and Flora Goodwin (Will); brother, Charles Whatley; sister, Ola Willis; special grandchildren, Ronald Watts and Darrell Stevenson; special friends, Ms. Connie and Ms. Bobbi; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 28, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Pentecostal Temple. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
