Obituary

Anthony Lewis "Hawk" Hawkins, son of the late Earl Pitts, Jr. and Idella Hawkins was born November 9, 1959 in Kansas City, Missouri. He departed this life on February 6, 2019 at Research Medical Center, surrounded by his wife Lula Hawkins. He was preceded in death by both parents; son, Jerome Palmer; grandson, James Palmer III; mother-in-law, Ellen McNeil and two brothers-in-law, Jimmy Kimber and Fred McNeil.

Anthony attended the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District, graduating from Westport in 1977. He professed his faith in Jesus Christ at Mt. Washington Baptist Church in 1896 when he was baptized by Rev. Leroy Kimber and was ordained as a deacon in 1987. Anthony joined Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church and became an active member in 2003, serving as a deacon and choir member. He loved to sing and attend Sunday school.

Anthony married Lula Palmer on September 29, 1985 and remained happily married for 33 years.

Anthony worked several jobs in the medical field including Western Missouri Mental Health Center, Truman Medical Center, Research Medical Center and lastly employed at Rock Hill Manor.

Anthony loved sports, his favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs but his current team was the Seattle Seahawks.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of thirty-three years, Lula Hawkins of Independence, MO; two sons, Rev. James Palmer (LaToshal) of Grandview, MO and Steven Palmer (Theresa) of Kansas City, MO; one brother, Alvin Hawkins of Fulton, MO; one brother-in-law, Rev. Leroy Kimber of Kansas City; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Estell Kansas City, MO; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, the Good Hope Baptist Church family and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, February 16, 11:00 a.m. at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared our website.
