April Lorraine
Shaw
Apr 7, 1959 — Jun 15, 2016
April Lorraine Shaw, 57, was born April 7, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa to Melvin Weaver and Clara Lou Lee. She was raised by Clara and William R. Berry, who both preceded her in death along with two sisters, Shanna Berry, Clara L. Berry and a nephew, Orlando D. Shaw. April was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri and later earned her GED. She accepted Christ as her Savior and occasionally attended Gethsemane Baptist Church. April was employed as a cashier at Walmart, which was so fitting because she loved talking to everyone and never met a stranger. She never had anything negative to say about anyone. April was united in marriage to Anthony R. Shaw, Sr. on August 13, 1977. She loved her family with all of her heart and was often considered a mother to many that she came in contact with. April was such a kind hearted and loving woman. She was quite crafty, making bracelets and necklaces for friends as a hobby. She also enjoyed sketching and writing poetry. Red being her favorite color, she loved flowers of all sorts and held them dear to her heart. April departed this life on June 15, 2016. Her loving spirit will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 38 years, Anthony R. Shaw, Sr.; two children, Anthony R. Shaw II (Rochelle) and Monique L. Shaw; one brother, Phillip J. Berry; two sisters, Christy L. Berry and Billie Jean Berry; one granddaughter, Journie L. Shaw; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, June 23, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
