Argustus " Gus" Thomas, Jr., 79, was born on November 22, 1940 in Memphis, Tennessee to the union of Argustus Thomas, Sr. and Susie Dawson. His parents, one son, Travis and a daughter, Verlee preceded him in death. Gus as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was educated in the public schools of West Memphis, Arkansas. He later moved to the Kansas City area where he made his home over thirty eight years. He was united in marriage to Gloria Brown on August 29, 1981. Gus was employed at ADM for thirty six years as a grain operator, until he retired in 2004. He was very gracious opening up his home to family and friends who came to Kansas City to live. One of the most memorable events in his life is when he married Gloria D. Barber and welcomed her five children and a became wonder blended family. Gus was a loving , caring, honest person to all of his friends and family, he never met a stranger. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. He loved singing old songs. He departed this life on Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Research Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Gloria; four sons, Reginald Thomas, L. D. Brown, Jr., Marlin Brown and Gerald Brown; one daughter, Phyllis Thomas; two sisters, Artry L. Tate, Edmondson, AR and Callie Dove, Indianapolis, IN; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, a special friend and brother-in-law, William Waterford and his "sister", Sheila Coppage.
