Arthur L. Ford, Jr., 79, passed away on December 8, 2018. He was born July 30, 1939 in Tillar, Arkansas to Arthur L. Ford, Sr., and Genora Drew. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncle and aunt, Tom and Hattie Penny.
Arthur was educated in the Kansas City public schools and was a graduate of Central High School, class of 1959. On November 27, 1960, he was united marriage to the former Ms. Doris Thompson. He was employed at the Southern Pacific Railroad as porter until he retired. He was later employed by the Kansas City School District as a security guard and also with W. W. Grainger retiring after fifteen years of service. Arthur confessed a hope in Christ at an early and united at St. Stephen Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. John W. Williams. He was a member of the Youth Choir and the Drum & Bugle Corp. He later united with Progressive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.M. Hudson and Rev. William Snorgrass. While at Progressive he was a member of the Mass Choir. Arthur was presently a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Donald D. Ford I and Dr. John Lewis, serving in the Mass Choir and Men's Choir. Arthur was very active in the community and enjoyed giving advice to others whenever he was called upon for information. He especially enjoyed speaking to the younger generation. He was a true family man and enjoyed spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Doris Ford, of the home; one son, Curtis Ford; two daughters, Sherri Phillips and Rhonda Edgerson (Brandon) of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Reginald Ford (Dannette) of Chicago, IL and Joe Trotter (Marie) of Portland,OR; two sisters, Amanda Fleming (Lee) and Hazel Blandon of Portland, OR; three grandsons, DeAndre Phillips, Michael Ford and Tayon Ford; granddaughters, ShaKecia Phillips and Jarhonda Williams of Kansas City, MO; two great grandsons, Cameron Spencer and Karter Evans; three great granddaughters, Aleyah Wells, Piper Phillips and Isis Phillips; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, December 15, 11:00 a.m. at Second Missionary Baptist Church of Grandview. Interment XII Gates Memorial Garden. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
