On the Eve of Mother's Day May 8, 2021 God decided that Sis A. Harris had done all
the good that she could do as a mother, she was a blessing to so many in so many
ways. Her legacy would include Christian mentoring and a variety of missionary outreach.
Australia was born in Shreveport Louisiana on March 1, 1939, the second of two children born to Isiah Allen and Katie Canada Allen. She was given the name of her maternal grandmother. She grew up attending Sunday school and bible study. She accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age, she never lost faith and always kept a church home.
Australia received her elementary and secondary education in Shreveport, LA., where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High considered an Ivy League school for people of color. She was a good student and an avid reader, attending Texas Southern University for a period of time. She moved to Kansas City in 1960 and attended community college with her sister Lena.
Australia met and married Ervin Jake Harris. Born to this union were two children, Ervin Daryl Harris and Winifred Ann Davis. The children were adored and loved, the family loved to take trips to visit relatives in Michigan and Louisiana.
Australia retired from Western Electric after 29 years of work. After retirement she attended Penn Valley Community College and completed a Certified Medical Technician program. She worked for ten plus years in a second profession that she loved doing private duty nursing.
Australia especially enjoyed traveling after retirement. She was a dedicated member of St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church where she used her leadership skills and kind manner to win people into working with her. She served as the Sunday School superintendent and lead many groups until her health began to fail.
Australia was preceded in death by her parents, Isiah Allen and Katie Canada Allen and husband Ervin Jake Harris. Australia leaves precious memories to one sister Lena Stacker two children, Daryl Harris, Winifred Davis both of Kansas City, Grandchildren, William Ervin Harris, Caylun Davis, Breanna Harris, Dominick Harris, Great Grandchildren, Pierce Vineyard, Courtland Harris, Braeden Harris, Skyler Kizer, a special daughter in law Carolyn Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
