Obituary

Barbara Ann Elam, 72, was born May 20, 1947, to the late Delma and Lottie Doxey of Kansas City, Missouri. She was the eldest of eight children. She was preceded on death by her husband Sanford Elam, eldest daughter Dawn Doxey and granddaughter Ashlyn J. Clark.

Barbara graduated from Southeast High School in 1965. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri - Warrensburg in 1983 and obtained her Master of Science degree in 1992. She was employed with Kansas City School District for twenty six years as a family and consumer science teacher.

Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the age of nine at Second Baptist Church. She later became a member of Maranatha Family Worship Center, where she remained a member until the Lord called her home.

Barbara was united in holy matrimony to Sanford Elam on October 20, 1977. They were united in marriage for thirty-nine years until his passing. Barbara truly enjoyed shopping as she was very fashion conscious and known for her beautiful style and dress.

Barbara departed this life on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Centerpoint Medical Center. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will forever be remembered for her out spoken personality and her love of life.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Nanette Victor, Yoni Wright (Robert), Eric Chappell (Nikita), and Shelena Elam; three brothers, John Doxey (Laveda), Micheal Doxey, and Walter Doxey; four sisters, Patricia Davis, Catherine Joyner (Leonard), Annette Jones (Lester), and Diane Shroyer (Tony); fifteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services Saturday, June 15, 11:00 a.m. at Maranatha Family Worship Center. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
