Obituary

Barbara Ann Richardson was born to the union of Freddie Rayfield and Laura Rayfield and lived a life defined by faith, education, service, and an unwavering devotion to family. On August 22, 1965, she married the love of her life, Rommie Richardson, beginning a marriage that stood as a true testament to partnership, commitment, and enduring love.

Barbara was educated at Booker T. Washington High School and continued her academic journey at Arkansas A&M and the University of Missouri Kansas City. Her passion for learning became her life's work. She proudly retired from the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools after more than forty years of dedicated service as a Social Studies and Geography educator. Through her teaching, Barbara shaped generations of students, instilling not only knowledge but curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the world.

A woman of deep faith, Barbara was an active and devoted member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. She faithfully served on the usher board, lending her warmth and grace to both the senior and youth ministries. Her service extended beyond the church walls. She was a proud member and past president of the National Association of Negro Professional Business Women's Club Incorporated and a past member of the UAPB KC Alumni, always committed to leadership, mentorship, and uplifting her community.

Barbara's life was rich with experiences. She loved volunteering and giving back, found peace in fishing, and had an extraordinary passion for travel. Her journeys took her across Africa, Japan, Canada, and every one of the fifty United States. Yet, no destination brought her more joy than returning to Texarkana to be surrounded by family. Home, to Barbara, was wherever her loved ones gathered.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children, son Eric Richardson and daughter Nichole Richardson McArthur, both of Kansas City Missouri. She also leaves her brothers Larry Rayfield and wife Tina, Artie Rayfield and wife Karen, Harold Rayfield and wife JoAnne, Milton Rayfield and wife Kathy, Ricky Rayfield and wife Patricia, Stacy Rayfield and wife Sheila, Floyd Rayfield and wife Bridgette, and her sister Carolyn Smith.

Barbara's legacy continues through her grandchildren Erica Peavy and husband Dionte, Emerald Richardson, Brittany Richardson, Candice Richardson, Kevis McArthur, and Kevin McArthur. She was blessed with great grandchildren Tay'Lon Peavy, Taylore Peavy, Kaylee McArthur, Tristan Barr, Esmeralda Dorsey, Jordon Thomas, Elynn Peavy, Kevis McArthur III, and Karter McArthur.

She also leaves to cherish her memory her in-laws, the Richardson family, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends whom she loved deeply and wholeheartedly.

Barbara Richardson's life was a testament to faith, family, and devotion. Though her earthly journey has ended, her love, wisdom, and spirit remain woven into the very fabric of her family's story and into the countless lives she touched along the way.
