Obituary

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Barthe Willis (Lardell), who peacefully transitioned from this world on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 63. Though he has left our sight, his radiant spirit and unwavering kindness will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him.

Born in Ferriday, Louisiana, Lardell's journey led him to Kansas City, Missouri, where he grew up before moving to Los Angeles at the age of nine. There, he thrived—attending elementary school and later graduating from Crenshaw High School, always embracing life with passion and energy. At 26, he returned to Kansas City, the place he would call home for the rest of his years, filling it with music, laughter, and love.

Lardell was a man who never met a stranger. His warmth and charisma drew people in, and his joy for life was utterly contagious. He had a deep love for music and singing, often lifting the spirits of those around him with his voice. A skilled roller skater, he could glide across the rink with effortless grace, embodying the rhythm and soul he cherished so deeply. More than anything, he was a giver—a devoted neighbor, a helping hand, and a constant source of encouragement to those who needed it.

Lardell found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved old-school music, indulging in his favorite foods—burritos, Louisiana cuisine, and gumbo—and most of all, celebrating his birthday with a heart full of gratitude. He was a man who truly appreciated the gift of life, embracing every moment with thankfulness and joy.

Though he is now reunited with his father, Louis Willis, and his sister, Phyllis Willis, his light lives on in those he leaves behind. Lardell is lovingly remembered by his cherished mother, Ola Willis; his brothers, Clinton Willis and Carlton Eubanks; his sisters, Prudence Hood and Protachea Willis; and an extended family and community of dear friends who will forever hold his memory close.

Lardell's journey on earth may have come to an end, but his legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His song has not ended—it plays on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest in peace, Lardell. Your melody will never fade.
