Bettie J.
Jones
Mar 25, 1934 — Dec 20, 2016
Bettie Jean Jones was born March 25, 1934 in Goodman, Mississippi to the union of Willie Jay and Earnestine Jones. Having accepted Christ as her personal savior early in life, Bettie was baptized at Church of God in Christ in Earle, Arkansas. Upon moving to Kansas City, she was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church prior to uniting with Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in August, 1997, under the leadership of Apostle Larry B. Aiken, where she remained a faithful member until her health would not allow her to attend. Over the years, she was active in many church ministries, but none made her more proud than when she was appointed to the Mother Board, a position well served by her wisdom and sweet spirit. She married Robert L. Jones, Sr. on February 19, 1951. The union was blessed with seven children, who always were a source of great pride to her. Her consummate love, care and devotion to the welfare of her family was selfless. She was best known for being a great cook, keeping a spotless house and for her ability to get anything clean, especially socks. She would take her time and when she finished it was super white again. Her house was where every-one hung out. She welcomed all with a smile, open arms and a plate of food. Bettie was a devoted housewife and homemaker until her youngest child entered middle school, after which she joined her husband in the family business, R. L. Jones & Sons Trucking Company, and helped him to successfully operate for over 35 years. Bettie was a very sharp dresser with a hat to match every outfit. She had an excellent flare for fashion and accessorizing. Her hair was always styled and she loved red finger nail polish. On Tuesday, December 20, 2016, Bettie Jean Jones went home to her Lord and Savior at the blessed age of eighty-two. She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two children; Carl and Hijji, two brothers; Willie, Jr. and twin brother Bobby, and two sisters; Eva and Ladelle. Bettie's beautiful life and legacy will forever live on in the lives of her five children, Robert Jones, Jr. (Sharon), Debra Jones, Michelle Cobbins, Carmon Jones Talley and Donna Davis (Douglas); Nine grandchildren, Aaron Johnson (Tyliece), Theresa Martinez, Janelle Birch, Robert Jones, III (Jennetta), Quiana Talley, Kameron Cobbins, Taylor Cobbins, Toni Tal-ley and Daija Davis; fourteen great-grandchildren, Devon, Janae, Ashley, Justin, Rian, Christian, Kennadi, Mauriana, Kaia, Reagan, Tysynne, Tionne, Tydran and Karlsyn; one brother, Fred Jones (Desse), one sister, Faye Colburn (Victor); two dear nieces, Brenda Pouncil and Barbara Banks and a host of other relatives and friends whose lives Bettie touched in a special way during her stay on earth. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Church International. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
