Obituary

Betty McDonald, 82, was called to her eternal rest on September 16th 2025 at St.Luke Medical Center in Overland Park,Kansas with her daughter and family by her side. Betty was born on September 3,1943 in Kansas City, Kansas to Leven and Agnes Bass McDonald, who preceded her in death. She was the 12th child of this union. Betty was also was preceded in death by her four sisters Naomi Walker, Ruth Holmes, Eula Mae Dunbar and Deborah Holly along with her five brothers Sam McDonald, Larnell McDonald, Albert McDonald, Charles McDonald and Jonathan McDonald. Larry McDonald, her nephew whom she raised, also preceded her in death.

Betty attended Manual High School were she received her high school diploma along with a license in Cosmetology. She had affectionately became the pressing comb queen for the family, getting everyone's hair perfect in her kitchen for every occasion. Betty worked as a cook for over 45+ years at the Alameda Hotel and the Intercontinental Hotel. She also loved to cook for her family, bring her culinary expertise home. After retirement Betty started to travel and take cruises with her daughter and granddaughter. During her travels she never met a stranger. Betty also enjoyed spending time with her family. She shared a special bond not only with her daughter, Dolletta McDonald and granddaughter, Tera Wiley, she also had a close relationship with her nieces, Sabrina Tate and Cuba Davis. She would also say that her nephew Zaire Robinson, was her "baby." Brittany Holly, her niece, held a special place in heart as well because of the care she provided for her and her daughter. Rhonda Walker was also like a daughter to her.

Betty started attending church at Beacon Hill of the Nazarene and accepted Christ in her life. She attended until her health started to decline.

She is survived by her daughter, granddaughter, brother, Nathaniel McDonald, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty will be missed by all who knew her.
