Betty Jean Miles, 65, was born May 25, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of the late Josh C. Young, Sr. and Alice (Groves) Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis E. Miles and a brother, John C. Young, Jr.
Betty attended Yeager Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970. She began her career at Katz Drug Store at the age of 16. Later she worked for the Internal Revenue Service, the Census Bureau, Union Pacific Railroad and finally KC Home Health Agency as an office manager.
Betty was a born again Christian baptized at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained a member until her death. Early in her Christian walk, she was a member of the inspirational choir and, along with her husband, served as Christian workers. At the time of her death she was serving as the teacher of Sunday School Class #9.
Betty enjoyed life and was a source of joy for many, as some have said, "she kept it real". She departed this life to join her heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Gloria J. Young; nieces, Michelle Young, Joslyn Spears (DeRowan) and Maylon Williams-Sims; grandnephew, Austin Young and Deacon Spears; special loving cousins, Jewrie Jackson, Ray E. Richards, Sr., Ophelia Jones; the members of MMBC Class #9; special neighbors, Deloris Paige, Margie Jones and other members of the Lewis Heights Neighborhood Assn; a host of other cousins, loved ones and friends.
