Bobbie Helen
Davis-Harvey
Nov 18, 1935 — Aug 17, 2020
Bobbie Helen Davis-Harvey, 84, was born November 18, 1935, in Buckner Arkansas to the union of Amos and Ivy Johnson. She was the second born of six siblings. After the passing of her father, the family relocated to Ogden, Utah. It is there that Momma Ivy met and married Cecil Smith Sr. aka "Poppa Smitty." The last four of Bobbie's siblings were born to this union.
Bobbie was a graduate of Ogden High School. She earned a BA degree in Education from Park College which afforded her the opportunity to teach in the Kansas City Missouri School District for many years until retirement.
She moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the 50's and later met and married Pastor Raymond Davis, Jr. They were founders of the Greater Corinthian Baptist Church (now Greater Corinthian Church of the Christ Non-Denominational.) Bobbie took her responsibilities as "First Lady" very seriously. Therefore, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, she was a mentor and spiritual advisor to many.
Later, she married Rev Louis Harvey of Colorado Springs, Colorado who joined her in Kansas City, Missouri.
Bobbie was a child prodigy at the age of two. This legacy was passed down to her from her mother, the late Mrs. Ivy Smith, an anointed singer in her own right. Bobbie went on to form a female group, The Sensations. They performed locally throughout the city.
She served as Minister of Music and/or Musician for Paradise Baptist Church, Greater Corinthian Non-Denominational Church, Love Fellowship Church, Trinity Baptist Church of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Bethel Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church until retirement.
Bobbie was a dynamic song writer, arranger and vocal instructor. If you ever sat under her music tutelage, then you know that she had a unique way of getting what she wanted out of you – including something that you didn't even know that you had. Affectionately called "Aunt Bobbie" by most, there are several children – now adults that were birthed from her anointed training, direction and instruction. She facilitated and conducted gospel workshops in various cities such as Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tacoma, Washington and her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.
Bobbie was a well-known professional gospel recording artist. With her anointed and uniquely gifted vocal ability, she would stir the service as she stroll the isles ministering God's Word in song. Bobbie was a longstanding member of the renowned group, Alma Whitney & The Whitney Singers. She shared the stage with many gospel greats to include Daryl Coley, The Hawkins Family, The Jackson Southernaires, Betty Griffin-Keller, The Williams Brothers, The Canton Spirituals, Albertina Walker & The Caravans and Pastor Shirley Caesar to name a few.
She spent her final days at Carondelet Manor. While always giving God the Glory, she blessed the residents there through her music ministry accompanied by her faithful sister, Zenobia. She will be greatly missed.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rev. Louis Harvey, siblings; Hazel McEwen, Shelly Smith, Cecil Smith and Cecelia Smith (twins).
She departed this life on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Carondelet Manor. She leaves to cherish her memory: her sister, Zenobia Smith; nieces, nephews and cousins; god children, Violet Rice and Timothy Estell along with a host friends who will dearly miss her.
