Bobbie Jean Lucas passed away peacefully on the morning of September 12, 2021. Bobbie was born in Hollandale, MS April 25, 1943. She lived in Hollandale until 1965 when she relocated to Marathon, FL with her three sons, JW White, Verely Roscoe White, and Vincent White. While in Marathon, Bobbie Jean enjoyed a host of friends and attended the Community College for her future career as a nursing assistant.
Bobbie Jean moved to Kansas City, MO in 1981 and continued her career as a nursing assistant at Jewish Family Services from 1981-1987. She obtained many certifications through the CNA Program at Park College and continued her education courses at Western Missouri Mental Health, where she worked until retirement. In 1989, she was awarded her certification for Long Term Care Nursing Assistant, licensed through the Kansas State Board.
Bobbie Jean found great comfort and faith through our Lord Jesus Christ when she accepted Christ while attending the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1989, she met and married Pastor Vasile John Lucas of the AME Church becoming a supportive, caring minister's wife that helped all she could within the Church. In 1997, she was appointed to the office of Chaplain and Worship Director under the jurisdiction of the Northwest Missouri African Methodist Episcopal church. Although, actively working in the AME Church, Bobbie Jean still followed and kept the tenets of the Seventh-day Adventist church throughout her life returning to Beacon Light in September 2019 to be rebaptized and serve under the Seventh-day Adventist Church after the passing of her husband in March of 2010. Bobbie Jean continued supporting and working with the AME church.
Bobbie Jean loved to read, sing, tell stories, and play cards. Her mastery of storytelling could not be matched, and she was invited everywhere to sing and tell her stories. She brought great comfort to the other women with breast cancer she met while in treatment and uplifted them through her storytelling. In her later years, she became very active with the prayer line. On any given day if you called her, she would say, "Okay baby, but let me get back to you I am on the prayer line."
She leaves behind her children, JW White (DeOnna), Verely Roscoe White, Vincent White, Keith Williams (Angela), Dionne Sylvan, Christana Diann Lucas, and Kathy Lucas Wilkerson. Bobbie Jean was very proud of her role as a mother and even more so as a grandmother. She leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great children. Nothing could make her prouder than talking about her family and the Lord, Jesus Christ!
Services will be held at Beacon Light Seventh-day Adventist Church on September 21, 2021, visitation starting at 10 and services at 11. She will be interned at Leavenworth National Cemetery following services. Funeral services provided by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Facial masks and social distancing is required.
