Bradford Channing
Miller
Aug 17, 1968 — May 31, 2020
Bradford Channing Miller, 51, fondly known as "Brad," was born August 7, 1968, to the union of John William Miller, Sr. and Candis Poke in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on May 31, 2020. He educated in Kansas City, Kansas. Brad graduated from Turner High School in 1985. He accepted Christ in his senior year of high school in September of the same year. He was baptized in the faith by the late Rev. Dr. Larry C. Lott of Blue Hills Church of the Nazarene. His salvation transformed his love for people, rap music, and acting. Although he was painfully shy, Brad traveled with the gospel performing group The Chosen Ones under the leadership of Carla Nelson Frazier.
Brad fully embraced every aspect of scripture, especially; "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat." 2 Thessalonians 3:10 NIV. He adopted hard work as a responsibility and duty of life. His work ethic developed as a teenager delivering newspapers, sacking groceries, and making pizzas. He worked hard, restoring an old Thunderbird to have transportation to get to and from his sporting activities and work. Brad played the trumpet in the band and taught himself to play the coronet and piano. He participated as a leader on the Turner High School basketball team. He and his cousin Joyce "Reecee" Dixon played 'pick up' basketball dominating opponents on both sides of the Stateline. Upon graduating high school, Brad took a job at Radio Shack, which would spark his love for electronics and introduce him to his best friend, Richard Lincoln. Brad and Richard traveled competing in audio competitions, drinking beer, and cultivating many lifelong friendships. An avid reader since four years old, he read everything from Robert Jordan books to instruction manuals – for fun! He taught himself ohm's laws and how to read and interpret schematics. Brad was widely regarded for his ability to fix anything. This ability earned him the nickname "Blackguyver." For nearly 28 years, Brad worked in various roles at Best Buy as one of only 280 Master Mobile Electronics Certified Professionals in North America. Brad left employment with Best Buy to work as an AASP in national defense at Honeywell FM&T. Where, once again, Brad fostered many friendships and was loved by all.
Brad enjoyed nearly every genre of music. He founded the local Defminds Production group producing music with his close friend the late Rollyn Klassy Moore, his brother James 'Bump' Fuller, aka Omien, his cousin Darrell Dixon aka RV the Poet, and son Nicholas Hunt aka Nycko Vice. You could hear Brad coming. He installed intricate mobile electronic and home theater systems in virtually everyone's home and cars. Brad was famous for mastering expert sound and making the bass hit you in the chest!
Brad joined BlackPlanet.com, where he would "accidentally" but divinely meet the love of his life, Teesha Miller. Brad and Teesha were joined in holy matrimony in front of nearly 300 people on June 10, 2006. They loved each other out loud. They were frequently seen holding hands, kissing, hugging, and displaying a level of affection that the whole world loved watching. When they married, Brad became an instant dad to Kristen, Nicholas, Jazmin, and Xavier. He loved the children as his own adopting the youngest two children legally, sealing the love he held for all of them spiritually. Brad and Teesha loved each other and insisted on rearing their family in the fear and admonition of the Lord.
They planned and organized special events and holidays, paying close attention to each detail and made sure that each person who stepped into their home felt special. Brad's red velvet cake, 7-up pound cake, and pear cobblers were often requested. Brad had multiple nicknames; Brad C., Bradley, The Professor #2, Big Bump, Beefer, Dad-Dad, Blackguyver, Son in love, and more! He unconditionally supported each of his children and his wife in their academic, athletic, and other pursuits. He showed each of his grandchildren the same kind of love and support.
Most recently, Brad poured his heart and soul into his grandchildren and cherished each one of them. Words used to describe Brad by those who knew him best include selfless, humble, kind, loving, generous, strong, creative, and loyal. He penned three books: Why We Hate the Truth, Laila Wants a Unicorn and Josiah's Great Adventures. He was a devoted husband and father to his four children. When he wasn't assisting his kids, spending time in the bathroom, or attending to his family, he could be found writing, baking (like his mother), or building something. Brad loved music, his electronics, gadgets, and anything that could be lit up with lights. He was notorious for rapping and acting out the entire I'm Bad video by LL Cool J or reenacting King Cobra in the middle of Paseo Blvd. He spent a lifetime putting others first and creating lasting memories with his family and friends.
He will be dearly missed. Brad was preceded in death through miscarriages by eight biological children, his father, John William Miller, Sr, paternal grandmother Verna Miller, maternal grandfather A.W. Poke, maternal grandmother Essie Poke. He is survived by his wife Teesha Miller of Raytown, children, Kristen (Ben) Holmes (Kansas City), Nicholas (Rogia) Hunt (Kansas City), Jazmin Young (Kansas City), and Xavier Miller (Kansas City, and six grandchildren Josiah, Sarah, Laila, Helen, Nina Rose, and Brennan.
