Carl Earl
Lewis
Jan 7, 1956 — May 1, 2017
Carl Earl Lewis, 61, KCMO, passed away on May 1, 2017 at the home. He was born January 7, 1956 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to Wilbur Lewis and Mamie Rankins. Both parents; one brother, Cledell Lewis and one sister, Shirley Morris preceded him in death. Affectionately known as 'Pete' or 'Uncle Pete', he attended the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri. He enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserves, serving six years before being honorably discharged. Carl was previously married to Alice F. Grayes, and two daughters were born to this union, Jennifer and Monica. On November 28, 1994, he was united in holy matrimony to Sheila D. Ross. To their union was born one daughter, Rheyna, and he gained another daughter, Taryn. Carl has held employment with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Union Pacific Railroad, Harding Glass, Insulite and City Glass before deciding to become self-employed. Carl became a member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in 1994, where he served for many years as an usher. After retirement he began to work with the kitchen committee as well. Carl was also a very dedicated member of the Elks Antler Lodge #1426 for over twenty years and held various positions within the organization. He enjoyed traveling and participating in lodge activities. Carl had a huge personality and never met a stranger. He was very outgoing and loved to socialize. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and watching any sport. Although he was not an official Uber driver, he spent a lot of his free time transporting family and friends on their different errands and doctor's appointments. Carl was definitely a pillar in his family and community with his wisdom and advice. He was the glue that kept the family together, and his generosity and kind spirit will be greatly missed. He leaves to mourn and forever cherish his memory: his loving wife, Sheila d. Ross-Lewis; four daughters, Jennifer Jackson (James), Monica Davis (Quinton), Taryn Ross and Rheyna Lewis; three brothers, Wilbur Lewis, Ledell B. Lewis (Angela) and Tom Morris; one sister, Linda Clayton; one sister-in-law, Yvette Ross; three grandchildren, Briana J. Hampton, Karltez E. Lewis and Lafayette Q. Davis; two great grandchildren, Madison Jones and Kelsey Revels; two special nieces, Shanda L. Morris (Pee Wee) and Kamryn E. Ross; longtime friend, Rev. Sylvester Harden; a host of other nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 13, 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
