Obituary

Carol Yvonne Johnson, 73, KCMO, passed away on June 6, 2016. She was born August 19, 1942 the middle child to parents Leslie Leo and Exter Marie King in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by both parents, her brother Richard King, sister Joyce M. White, and a niece Crystal M. White. Carol attended school at Wendell Phillips Elementary, R.T. Coles Junior High for one year, Lincoln Junior High and later graduated from Lincoln High School in 1960. Carol also pursued her business degree at Kansas City Polytechnic Institute where she met and later married Charles E. Johnson. Carol and Charles had eight children between them and nurtured and raised several more. She dedicated her life to the Lord at an early age and began her spiritual journey when she first attended True Vine Baptist Church and then Paseo Baptist where she served as the church secretary. She later became an early member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (now Canaan Worship Center), where she was member of the 'Voices of Canaan ' choir and served on the usher board along with her mother and aunt. Carol was a cheerful person and enjoyed being active and involved in positive things. She was a member of Marie B. Jarret Chapter #102, O.E.S (Order of Eastern Star), Pride of the West #20, Heroines of Jericho and the Daughters of Isis. She worked for Feldman's Soda Fountain at a young age, then moved on and secured her career with Sears & Roebuck where she worked as a Sales Representative on the Country Club Plaza. She later became a Buyer's Analyst in Overland Park, KS and later retired from the Sears Distribution Center on Truman Road in 1992. Carol was soft spoken, kind and sharp in intellect. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, music, gardening, new technology and gadgets, but most of all she enjoyed doing things with her children and grandchildren. She was also the primary caregiver for several of her elderly family members. Her life was truly a life to be celebrated and although her legacy will live on she will be truly missed. She leaves to celebrate her journey: her husband, Charles E. Johnson; two sons, Reginald Johnson (Annette) Kansas City, MO and Ronald Johnson (Tamara) of Monroe, WA; five daughters, Jeanne Perkins of North Kansas City, MO, Tracy Johnson (Willie) of Blue Springs, MO, Katherine Ashley (Kevin), Carla Johnson (Terry) and Alicia Johnson (Jevon) all of Kansas City, MO; stepson, Shawn Johnson of Raytown, MO; two brothers-in-law, James White and Fred Johnson; two best friends, Berta Tatum and Sandra Lucas; fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 18, 11:00 a.m. at Canaan Worship Center. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shard on our website.
