Obituary

Charlene Adesina, 74, KCMO, passed away on July 2, 2017 at St. Joseph Medical Center. Charlene was lovingly known as 'Chocky' to close family members and friends from Oklahoma. She loved to return to Beggs, Oklahoma to visit her family throughout her life. In Kansas City, she was known as Sister C., Ms. Charlene, Miss Annie, Char, and Granny. She had an immensely colorful personality. She was passionate, loved family, singing, music, books, writing, traveling, praying, feeding people, hosting birthday parties, holidays or catering events and fellowshipping with friends; there were no strangers. Most importantly she loved the Lord. She loved the Word of God! She very often shared her faith in Jesus Christ proclaiming Him as her Lord and Savior. Charlene was a faithful servant of Christian Fellowship where she was a church Mother who volunteered much of her time, talent, and treasure for many years in different capacities. As a prayer partner or warrior, she would intercede in love on anyone's behalf. Charlene was born in Beggs, Oklahoma on January 25, 1943 to Willia Mae Moore. Her mother died when she was 11 years old. She didn't have the opportunity to meet her father or learn very much about him in her lifetime. Charlene moved to Kansas City, MO as a young teen. She married at the age of 15 to Walter Nelson. She bore 4 children, one dying shortly after birth. Charlene was one of 13 children. Her siblings, Annabelle Hamilton, Doris Clayton, Adolph 'Tap' Clayton, Linda K. Wells, Redonna Tharee, James Cofon, John Cofon, Lonelle Cofon, Ronald and Donald Cofon, all preceded her in death. Charlene married to Mr. Adesina in 1981. The marriage was dissolved. She then married John D. Watson of Kansas City in 1988 and resided with him until God called her home. She was a natural born leader, a hard worker, tough but fair, rarely politically correct, but you would not have to guess how she felt in any situation. She wanted to be remembered as a classy and sassy, vibrant, people-loving, child of God. She touched many lives and was not easy to forget. She attended Penn Valley Community College and was certified in Dietary Management and Nutrition. Charlene worked in Food Service Management and retired from the Kansas City Missouri School District. She also served on the School District Board. She leaves many amazing and unforgettable memories with her husband, John D. Watson; children, Teresa Childs (Kirmin Sr.), Denver, CO, Teri Nelson, Dallas, TX, and Ronnie Nelson (Latonya), Kansas City, MO; step children, Donna Sayer, Debbie Roland, Glenda Wilson, Cynthia Nelson, and John Watson, Jr. all of Kansas City, MO; brother, Donelle 'Tee' Cofon, Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Ouida Allen, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Evonne Bolen, Kirmin Childs, Jr. (Adrianna), Kevin Childs (Carolyn), Keith Childs, TerJon Nelson, Flanderst Nelson, Zederick Hargraves, Chandrelle Nelson, Artharr Nelson (Jolonda), Shanelle Nelson, LaRon Nelson, Cameron Nelson, Latreice Nelson, Donelle Nelson, Ebony Nelson, James Rankins, and Annrea Nelson; adopted grandchildren, Joseph Bradford, JoShanda Bradford, and Trent Wilson; great grandchildren, Armoniee, Indeiah, Cardon Jr., Keahi, Phoenix, Elise, Nicole, LaNiah, Fauntez, Ziana, *Danchez,*Damontre, Samina, Trinity, Tyler, Aliyah, Cameron Jr., Caden, Jew'ell, Chozyn, Angel, Ja'da, Ja'kye, Cheyenne, Amari, Mya, and January.
