Charles E.
Mcgowan
May 19, 1962 — Sep 3, 2018
Charles E. McGowan departed this life on September 3, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospice House, after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. "Chuck", as he was known to family and friends, was born May 19, 1962 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the union of Johnny and Johnnie Mae McGowan. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny "Big John" McGowan, Jr.; one sister, Dorothy "Jean" McBride; five brothers, Larry Murphy, Richard McGowan, Michael McGowan, Johnny McGowan III, and Christian "Chris" McGowan; brother-in-law, Mark Griffith; special nephew, Anthony McBride; and his loving grandparents, Johnny and Helen Manning.
After the family relocated to Kansas City, MO Chuck attended school in the Kansas City, MO School District. He completed his education at Northeast Senior High School.
Even as a father himself, Chuck was a proud "Mama's boy". He loved her deeply and she loves him still. They say you shouldn't have a "pick" among your kids but she held Chuck a little closer to her heart. Despite battling some personal demons in his life, Chuck KNEW THE LORD!! It was his faith and his praying Mama and Grandma that covered him and kept him safe (and he knew this), along with God's grace and mercy.
Chuck was given the nickname "KC's Own Bernie Mac" after a video of him impersonating the late comedian went viral on Facebook. He had a natural flair for comedy, loved laughing and joking with family, and doing his "Bernie" character. He took great pride in his appearance, and was never without his hat and hand towel. Chuck was also known as one of the best KC 2-Steppers out there, and enjoyed teaching family members to Step also.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Johnnie Mae McGowan (Doug); one son Mark McGowan, Sr. (Eryka); one grandson Mark "MJ" McGowan, Jr.; six sisters, Dian Manning- Tabron, Janice McGowan, Barbara McGowan-Griffith, Nancy "Nikki" Matthews, Carah McGowan and Desiree McGowan; two brothers, James McGowan, Sr. (Seneca) and Samuel McGowan (Jessica); six aunts, Willie Mae Boose (Jerry), Edna "Faye" McNeely (Tony), Mary Manning, Betty Reed (Charles), Ruby Meyers (Emmanuel) and Earsaline Phifer (Randy); four uncles, Charles Manning , Calvin "Ray" Manning, Ira Manning (Lovely) and Roy "Ricky" Manning, Sr.(Sidnietra); his stepmother, Tina McGowan; best friend, Donald Davis ; 36 nephews, and nieces; 37 great nephews and nieces, and a host of cousins, other loved ones and friends.
