Obituary

Charles Edward Wofford, 57, KCMO, passed away on May 26, 2018 at the home. He was born February 12, 1961 in Kansas City, Kansas to Flossie and Nathaniel Wofford, Jr. He was preceded in death by both parents and an older brother.

"Chucky", was educated in the KCMO School District, graduating from Central High School in 1979. He was forever proud to be a Central Eagle. From birth he attended St. Stephen Baptist Church, being baptized under Rev. Dr. John W. Williams, Jr. He was a member of the Drum & Bugle Corps, Sunday school, Junior Church, BTU and the choir.

On February 14, 1981 he married Margie Watson. To this union his only child, Temica Marie was born. Though the union did not last, they remained loving and dedicated parents to their daughter. "Mica Pooh", as he lovingly called her, was truly the apple of his eye and he was beyond proud to be her father. He was absolutely her biggest cheerleader, telling anyone who would listen about her wonderful accomplishments. If you looked at Temica you'd see the same big beautiful smile as Chucky. Chucky remarried on July 10, 1994 to Mary Freeman and they remained married until his untimely death.

In 1982, Chucky began working as a sales rep for Kirby Vacuum Cleaners. It was clear he had a gift for entrepreneurship. This led him to purchase his own Kirby carpet cleaning machine and go into business for himself (Re-Nu-It Carpet Cleaning). While still maintaining his carpet cleaning business, he began working for True Temper Railway. After several years at True Temper he opened the famous Meats and Sweets Deli. It was here that all his nephews, nieces and little cousins got their first job. Meats and Sweets became a safe community hangout for the Swope Park area. In 1997, he started and trademarked God's Team clothing line. He successfully sold apparel that exemplified his faith in Christ.

Chucky inherited from his mother his love of entertaining. He would often host parties for sporting events, most notably the NBA finals. He was also an avid domino and pool player, often hosting pool tournaments at his home.

He leaves to cherish and treasure his memory: his wife, Mary Freeman-Wofford; daughter, Temica Marie Wofford and stepdaughter, Ashley Freeman; brothers, Leon (Jaelean) Lee Roy and Nathaniel III; sisters, Ella Strong and Sonja Robinson (Edward); stepmother, Hazel Wofford; uncle, Gavie Wofford (Jean); aunts, Verma Cal, Thelma Cal, Dizer Brown (J.W.), Everteen Wofford, Mary Wofford and Emma Wofford; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
