Cheryl Yvonne Burleson, 64, KCMO, was born September 5, 1952 in Nashville, Arkansas to James Edward and Ella Ruth Shaw. She was the eldest of seven children. Cheryl left this life and began living with the Lord on April 27, 2017. Her parents, brother Allen Wayne Shaw, and nephew Keeton Shaw preceded her in death. Cheryl grew up in Kansas City, Missouri graduated from Lincoln High School in 1970, where she was known as 'Chicken'. She married Verne Burleson in 1977. She was a mother to all, but gave birth to five children. Cheryl worked for the Internal Revenue Service for twenty years, but her passion was cooking and sewing. She loved cooking big meals, and enjoyed making clothes and wedding dresses. Her family sure did love her snicker cake! Cheryl's life was changed after a car accident in 2003, which lead to her many illnesses. She was known as the block mother to all the neighborhood kids and will be truly missed by many. She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Verne Burleson; children, Steven Shaw, Brian Shaw (Vera Shaw), Talitha Cumi Burleson, Christine Burleson, and Vincent Burleson; brother, Kenneth Shaw; sisters, Cynthia Ann Shaw, Karen Shaw, Kathy Shaw-King (Willie King), and Carla Shaw-Rushing; grandchildren, Chervonne Burleson, Dalila Burleson, Clinnon White, Malachi White Michael Shaw, Anthony Shaw, and Cross Shaw; and a host of other family members and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 6, 12:00 p.m. at New Life in Christ. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1100 -12:00 p.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
