Cheryl R.
Hoskins
Jun 13, 1959 — Jun 26, 2017
Cheryl Renee Hoskins, 58, KCMO, was born June 13, 1959 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, to Charles Henry and Versie Lee (Dean) Hoskins. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles H. Hoskins, Sr.; sister, Jacqueline Burns, both paternal and maternal grandparents, and many uncles, aunts, and cousins. As a lifelong area resident, Cheryl was educated in the public schools of Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Martin Luther King Elementary and Southeast High Schools. Cheryl worked during her early years in the janitorial services and customer services industry. Cheryl was baptized at the age of twelve, under Rev. Melvin Boyle. She also attended Community Progressive Baptized Church into her adult years and later Higher Dimension Church, under the pastoral guidance of Pastor DeAngelo R. Huggins until the failing of her health. Cheryl loved the Lord and went every Sunday to worship the Lord with all her heart. At the age of fifteen, Cheryl joined the family gospel group 'Band of Angles', which included her siblings, uncle, aunt, and family friends. Cheryl had a very distinctive, high pitched voice, Soprano. Cheryl was the lead singer for the group, and traveled throughout the Kansas City Metro Area. She was very good at singing and had a beautiful voice. She was very compassionate about what she did and didn't let anyone get in her way. Cheryl was very protective over her children and family. She was generous and had a big heart of gold, often giving whatever was needed if she had it to give. Cheryl was very loving, caring, and was known to 'check you and your children' without a doubt! She was the life of the party, as she enjoyed singing and dancing on the dance floor until she couldn't dance anymore. Cheryl was a fighter and strong willed person. She would not give up and didn't allow her children to give up either. Cheryl was an imperfect, but perfect person at the same time. She knew how to walk with the Lord and definitely had a very personal relationship with him. Cheryl departed this earthly life on June 26, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory: two loving children, Antonio B. Hoskins (Sandra) and Candace L. Johnson; a loving and devoted mother, Versie Hoskins; brother, Charles Hoskins, Jr. (Demetra); sisters, Olivia White (Andre), Beverly Rand (Abel) and Doris Hoskins (Phillip); brother-in-law, Vernando Bruns; sister-in-law, Sylvia Hoskins; six grandchildren, Andre Johnson, Jr., Ja'heim Hoskins, Deivyon Johnson, A'nya Hoskins, A'neisa Hoskins and Rhylan Walker; a host of very loving uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, July 3, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
