Christian Royal Crockett, Sr., 35, was born May 7, 1981 in Kansas City, Missouri to William B. Hunter and Tina R. McGowan. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Johnny 'Big John' McGowan, Jr.; grandfather, Henry C. Crockett; grandmother, Lenora Hunter; brothers, Johnny McGowan III and Michael McGowan; uncles, Michael Warren, Charles Crockett and Richard Lumpkins; aunt, Tracie Lumpkins and host of other family members. Chris was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District. In high school he was a member of the R.O.T.C., the Art Club, Junior Shrine and also participated in golf classes. Chris received Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Stephen Baptist Church. He was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. He also worked as a caregiver for mentally challenged children for several years at multiple facilities. Chris was very family oriented and loved his children dearly, always instilling life's values in them. He enjoyed family gatherings and was always the life of the party. Chris was the glue that kept things together. He was a devoted father, awesome son, great brother, loving uncle and true friend to those he came in contact with. Christian departed this earthly life on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Research Medical Center, surrounded by family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory: four sons, Christian R. Crockett, Jr., Darius D. Cummings, Jeremy A. Rogers and Keion Crockett; two daughters, Natori Smith and Chrislynn Brown; his soulmate and best friend, Akilah Ramseur; father, William B. Hunter (Brenda Kirkwood); mother, Tina McGowan (Todd Love); grandmother, Phylliss Crockett; brothers, Charles McGowan, James McGowan (Seneca) and Samuel McGowan; sisters, Dian Tabron (Frank), Janice McGowan, Barbara McGowan (Mark Griffin), Desiree Crockett (Dominique), Carah McGowan and Tyrisha Hunter; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Monday, October 10, 11:00 a.m. at Concord Fortress of Hope. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
