Obituary

Clarence Burns Stuart, 78, was born February 6, 1941 in Schaal, Arkansas to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Lenard and Leedell (Belcher) Stuart. Clarence grew up in a loving family with eleven siblings: brothers, Billy Boy Stuart, Charles Stuart, Gene Stuart, Jimmy Stuart, William (Mac) Stuart, Donnie Stuart and sisters, Vesta (Stuart) Thompson, Vernear (Stuart) Jones, Carol Jean (Stuart) Henderson and Bobbie Ann Stuart. He was preceded in death by both his parents Lenard and Leedale Stuart; and siblings, Billy Boy Stuart, Charles Stuart, Carol Jean Henderson, Jimmy Stuart, and Vesta Thompson.

Clarence accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Tabernacle C.M.E. Church in Schaal, Arkansas. Clarence joined the United States Army where he served as a gunner. After being honorably discharged from he took a job with General Motors in Flint, Michigan. When Clarence later moved to Kansas City, Missouri he worked for fifteen years for Montgomery Ward in furniture and also was a union steward.

Clarence was an avid sports fan who loved golf and horse racing. He also loved playing numbers from his dream books. He enjoyed cooking and barbecuing for his family whom he loved, especially his lifelong companion Juanita Kemp. Clarence and Juanita were together for over forty-six years. He helped raise Juanita's twin sons and was a father figure in their lives. Clarence and Juanita later had a daughter Krystal who he loved dearly and had a very close relationship and bond with. He would call her "Krys" instead of Krystal and she was a daddy's girl. Clarence also has six other children: Fredrick, Tammy, Rochelle, Tomia, Kelly, CB, and was also father figure to Jason and Jeffery.

Mr. Stuart loved going to the Kansas City VA Medical Center. He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma which is a cancer of the plasma and blood. Clarence battled this disease until he was placed in hospice in May 2019 and spent his last three months at home. He knew his time was coming to an end and told his daughter Krystal, "It's time for me to move out the way and let another Veteran take my place". Clarence had a relationship with Christ that he did not fear the outcome of his condition.

On July 12, 2019, the day of his transition, Clarence listened to his favorite gospel song "Precious Lord" and raised his hand up. He was a man of character and respect. Clarence will be missed deeply by his surviving family, staff at the KCVA, hospice nurses and all of his friends and acquaintances. If you had the pleasure of ever talking to Clarence you would know why he was loved by so many because he truly had a lastly effect on everyone he met.

He is survived by his lifelong companion, Juanita Kemp; children, Fredrick, Tammy, Rochelle (Clifford) Stuart-Akujobi, Tomia (Mike) Stevens, Kelly (Demetrius) Williams, Jeffery (Jami) Kemp, Jason (Marketta) Kemp, Clarence B. (Rainy) Cadenhead, and Krystal J.
