Damon
Bruster
Jan 30, 1966 — Aug 2, 2024
Damon Eugene Bruster Sr., a loving father, husband, son,
brother, uncle, grandfather, and cherished friend, was born on
January 30, 1966, in Kansas City, MO. He transitioned to
eternal rest on Friday, August 2, 2024, in the same city.
Damon was the son of Arlvelt Eugene Bruster Sr. and Velma
Sheppard. Following Velma's passing shortly after his birth,
Arlvelt Sr. married Lena Webb. Together, Arlvelt Sr. and Lena
raised Damon along with Lena's children, making Damon one
of eleven siblings.
Damon accepted Christ at a young age and was an active
member of Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church.
Growing up in Kansas City, Damon attended the Kansas City
Public School System and graduated from Central High
School in 1984. It was at Central High where he met Sharon
Rhodes, whom he later married. They had three children
together: Damon Eugene Bruster Jr., Celeste Bruster, and
Darrien Bruster. Damon later married Marie Swan-Bruster, with
whom he gained two sons, DeAngelo Bruster and
Domonic Swan--Damon's bonus son.
Professionally, Damon worked as a utility worker at the Kansas
City Water Department until illness led him to become disabled.
Affectionately known as "TRU LUV" to family and friends,
Damon was famous for his flashy cars, impeccable style, and
always smelling like he just walked out of a men's cologne
store. His infectious laughter and love for telling jokes brought
joy to many. Those close to him were privileged to hear his
heartfelt—but somewhat off-key—singing of the song
"Reasons" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. Damon also held the
family's annual Fourth of July parties for years until his
health began to decline.
Damon was preceded in death by his father, Arlvelt Bruster
Sr.; his maternal and paternal grandmothers, Thelma Webb
and Johnny Mae Gentry; his grandfather, Hobert Gentry; his
first wife, Sharon Bruster; his brothers, Richard "Ricky" Hill and
Marvin Hill; his uncle, James "Boots" Bruster; and a number
of aunts, cousins, and nieces.
Damon is survived by his four sons: Damon Bruster Jr.,
Domonic Swan, Darrien Bruster, and DeAngelo Bruster; one
daughter, Celeste Bruster; and two grandchildren. He is also
survived by his mother, Lena Bruster; four brothers: Dennis Hill
Sr., John Perkins (Vickie), Roland Perkins (Renee'), and
Arlvelt Bruster Jr.; and four sisters: Venus Hill, Sheila Marshall,
Kim Perkins, and Deserie Perkins. Additionally, he leaves
behind a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Damon "TRU LUV" Bruster will be deeply missed by all who knew
and loved him.
