Obituary

Mother Darlene McDaniel was born November 16, 1929 in Okalona, Arkansas to the union of Henry Scott and Irene Scott, nee Sorrells. She was the third child of eight sisters and seven brothers. Mother McDaniel received her education from Okalona public schools. In 1946, Darlene married Vessie Lee McDaniel. In 1954, Darlene moved to Kansas City, Missouri to be near family. Mother McDaniel accepted Christ in the 1960s. She was one of the early members of the Gethsemane Church of God In Christ founded in 1966 in Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of Elder A.L. Scott, her brother. She served for many years on the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Mother's Board and the Jubilee Choir. In 1983, Mother McDaniel moved to Pleasanton, California and became a member of the Mingleton Temple Church of God In Christ in Oakland, California, under the leadership of Elder John M. Evans. She served faithfully on the Usher Board and in the Women's Chorus. She was employed by the Nuclepore Filter Company of Pleasanton, Caifornia until retirement. In 2004, Mother McDaniel returned to Kansas City, Missouri and reunited with the Gethsemane Center of Hope Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Elder Daryl Randolph, her great nephew. She attended faithfully until her health failed. Mother McDaniel answered the Master's call on Monday, May 22, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Gregory D. McDaniel; a granddaughter, Ronda Brown-Hayden; brothers, Johnnie Scott, Henry Scott Jr., Alonzo Scott, Frank Scott, and Elder A.L. Scott; and sisters, Florean King, Lorean Randolph, Merelene Sutherlin, and Roselene Crutchfield-Matthews. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Larry McDaniel Sr. (Gina) of Gardner, KS; three daughters, Lenell Guinn (Lawrence Sr.) of Overland Park, KS, Balinda Hill (Robert) of Olathe, KS, and Delois Crase, of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Theodore Scott (Mary) of Kansas City, MO and Robert Scott of Los Angeles, CA; three sisters, Dorothy Burns of Houston, TX, Charlene Webb (Albert Sr.) of Kansas City, MO, and Ersielene Ruffin of Atlanta, GA; three grandsons, Lawrence Guinn Jr. (Tonya), Larry McDaniel Jr., and Richard Aguilar III; three granddaughters, Carla Keophommasane (Viengkeo), Shayla McDaniel, and Stephanie Henderson (Mark); five great grandchildren, Staci Brown, Amber Hayden-Gardenhire, Robert Hayden III, Jasmine Couch, Dion Devereaux, and Devin Henderson; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 30, 11:00 a.m. at Gethsemane Church of God in Christ. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
