Darrell R. Alnutt, 67 of Kansas City, MO died Monday, December 28, 2020 at KU Medical Center.
Darrell Ray Alnutt was born on November 7, 1953, to James and Murriel Alnutt in Kanas City, Missouri. He was the seventh of eight children born to this union. Darrell was 67 years old when he departed this life on December 28, 2020, at the University of Kansas Health System.
Darrell was christened as a young child and was a lifetime member of Willis Chapel A.M.E. Church. He served in many ministries of the church including Treasurer, Steward, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Teacher, Adult Choir, Men's Choir, Men of Willis, and Senior Ministry to name a few. He was a dedicated and faithful member until the end.
Darrell received his education from the Kansas City Missouri Public School System attending Graceland Elementary School, Southeast Junior and Southeast High Schools graduating with the class of 1971. He continued his education at Penn Valley Community College and the University of Missouri at Kansas City receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education.
Darrell taught in the Kansas City Missouri Public School System beginning at Marlborough Elementary School later moving to Knotts Environmental Science Magnet School where he had the pleasure of teaching alongside his sister Marilyn, where many of the staff and students thought they were twins. Darrell was soon sought out by the University of Missouri at Kansas City, other local school districts and the state of Missouri to instruct teachers on teaching science as a Science Coordinator and as a Regional Missouri Assessment Program Coordinator. His colleagues expressed that Darrell was a gifted science educator and touched so many teachers and students over the years. His lessons will live on through them. He retired after 29+ years of service as an instructional coach.
Darrell enjoyed socializing with his family and friends and he loved cars. He lived in the family home. and enjoyed grilling, feeding and watching the hummingbirds and other species of birds in his back yard. He was also excited to observe the deer that frequented his property. Darrell loved his family, his church, and his friends. One was always greeted with a warm smile and never heard anything negative or a complaint from him.
Soon after retiring, Darrell was afflicted with many health issues which required several surgeries and many hospital stays over the years. After a fall in August which resulted in a broken leg, Darrell entered the hospital and suffered complications. He fought the good fight and now the victory is his for he will suffer no more!
He is preceded in death by both parents, two sisters: Sharon Ann Williams and Sandra Lee Garner, two nephews: Gregory John Collins and Roy Michael Collins, III, one niece: Yvette Alnutt Reiner (Pebbles) and a great nephew: Kyrie David Brown.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memory 5 siblings: James Ralph (Dune) Alnutt, Jr. (Jannie), Marilyn Kay Alnutt, Janice Olivia Davis (Lawrence), Deborah Regina Dickerson (James) all of Kansas City, Missouri, and Renée Patrice Gray of Grandview, Missouri. He also leaves two great friends and brothers from other mothers: Wayne Tate and Keith McDaniel, seven nephews, ten nieces; and a host of great nephews and nieces and other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00 am - 11:00 am.
