Obituary

David Hammonds, 74, was born to Elford and Gussie Hammonds on March 26, 1945 in Center Ridge, Arkansas. His parents preceded him in death.

David attended the Arkansas Public School and graduated from Conway Training School. He then moved to Kansas City, Missouri in the early 60's while making his career in the construction industry.

David created D&D (Dave & Daughters) Construction, Inc. in the early 90's. It was one of the few African-American owned small business construction companies in the state of Missouri.

David was an active charter member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, KCMO for over 25 years. He was an active Mason (Lodge #23) and was a member of the Local Union 624. He was also member of the National Association of Construction Contractors Cooperation (NACCC), an organization that enables economic growth for urban and rural contractors.

David was a skilled hunter of big game, an excellent marksman, a barbecue pit master, and an avid gardener. He volunteered his time and was an active member of the Kansas City Community Gardens. He enjoyed canning, making wine, and watching classic westerns on television.

David was united in holy matrimony to Kay Sue on April 6, 1974 and they had two children. Although he was a self-proclaimed "work-a-holic", he did enjoy spending time with family and friends.

David departed this life on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care Center in KCMO.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his supportive wife, Kay Sue Hammonds; two devoted daughters, Pamela (Randall) Henderson and Dr. Patti Hammonds (Gregory) Greene; two amazing grandsons, Caleb Henderson and Xavier Henderson; three brothers, Matthew (Thelma) Hammonds, Larry (Diane) Hammonds of Center Ridge, AR, and Mark (Dawn) Hammonds of Atlanta, GA; three sisters, Geneva (Joe) Credit of Mayflower, AR, Mable (J.C. Brown) Hammonds and Maebell Hammonds of Kansas City, MO; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
