David Lee McFadden,86, was born to the union of Fred McFadden, Sr. and Irene Anderson McFadden on June 19, 1934 in Warren, AR. He is the fourth child of seven siblings born to the union. He passed away July 22, 2020 at Research medica Center.
The family relocated to Dermott, AR. David Lee grew up there and attended school at Dermott High School where he graduated in 1954. He obtained his high school diploma. After graduating from High school worked on farm. It was during this capacity that he decided that he wanted a better life and opportunities for himself. He relocated to Kansas City to fulfill his dream. He gained employment with House of Toy Chinese Restaurant as a chef. He loved to cook. It was his love of cooking that would lead him to work as a chef at some of Kansas City's finest Restaurants, namely the Muehlebach Hotel, Savoy Restaurant & Grill, Jasper's Restaurant and Allied Signal where he worked for twelve years and retiring after his health began to fail.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age when the joined church at St. Marion Baptist Church in Sunshine Arkansas. After relocating to Kansas City, he continued this relationship as a child of God when he joined Emmanuel Baptist Church under the Leadership of the late Reverend W.H. White, Sr. He was a member for over twenty years. While there he served as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School as well as member of the Trustee Board. He later united with Gethsemane New Testament Baptist Church, Reverend Jehrome Randolph, Pastor. He attended church faithfully and regularly when his health allowed him to do so. He sang in the choir and served on the Trustee Board.
He met and married Mary Frances Sanders in 1974. They were blessed to have shared forty-five happy and blissful years together..
David was quiet and kind person every one that knew him as a friend loved and respected him. He never met strangers, in his spare time he could be found gardening which was a passion of his, he loved fresh home grown vegetables, fishing was another passion he often went fishing when the opportunity presented itself. He was an avid sports fan all his life. The L.A. Lakers was his favorite basketball team.
His mother, Irene McFadden, father, Fed McFadden, Sr., sisters, Mabel Williams, Maudell Tolefree, brothers, James McFadden, Fred McFadden, Jr. stepson, Theo Bankston all preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories: his devoted wife Mary F. McFadden of the home, stepson, James Donnell Wilson Topeka, KS, brother, Emmanuel McFadden, Sr. Bakersfield, CA.; sister, Martha V. Morris; granddaughters, Tammy Bankston, Kimberly Wilson, Kelly Robinson; one great granddaughter, Jayden Wilson; three great grandsons, Roy Wright, Jr. Tamerick Wright and Jorden Wright all of Kansas City; a special niece Mary Tolefree Ivy of Chicago, IL.; special nephew, Minister Eric Tolefree of Atlanta, GA.; special cousin, Betty R. Brown of Kansas City; and a host of other wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, remarkable friends and his church family of Gethsemane New Testament Church. All of whom will cherish his fond memories. He will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service Saturday, August 1, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m. at the chapel. Service conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website. Due to the COVID 19 Panademic all guest are required to wear mask.
