Debra L.
Taylor
Mar 24, 1960 — Nov 21, 2024
Ms. Debra Lorraine Taylor was born to Edgar and Anne Ross on March 24, 1960, in Kansas
City, Missouri. On November 21, 2024, Debra was called home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Debra was introduced to Christ and baptized at an early age, and as an adult, she was a faithful
member of Harvest Church for nearly 30 years. She worked with the bus ministry, ensuring those
who needed transportation to church could attend. She found great joy working in new member
outreach and ensured newer members always had someone to lean on, no matter what time of
day.
Debra was educated in the Kansas City Public School District and was a proud graduate of
Southeast High School, class of 1978. After graduation and throughout the years, she worked as
a clerical assistant for various organizations. Anyone who knew Debra knew her greatest passion
was baking; she was incredibly proud of her part-time catering business that she maintained for
many years and was known by many as, "Cookie Lady."
Outside of baking, Debra enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Especially her
daughters, sister, and grandchildren who affectionately called her, "Memaw." They enjoyed
attending church services, visiting local parks, shopping, and vacationing together.
Debra also had a passion for giving back to those in need. As many know, she never met a
stranger and would strike up conversations with anyone who crossed her path. She frequently
worked with outreach organizations to provide meals and clothing to unhoused individuals
throughout the city. She often collected gently used clothing for donation to children in Africa
and Haiti. After Hurricane Katrina, Debra coordinated with local non-profit organizations, drove
her car to New Orleans, and volunteered to provide day-to-day essentials to those in need. She
was a true blessing to all who met her.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terrance Ross, and sisters Carol Ross and
Jennifer Watson.
Debra was an incredible woman that was dedicated to her family, a devout Christian, a
wonderful mother, a proud and doting Memaw, and a great friend to everyone she met. To
cherish her memory, Debra leaves behind her daughters Debby Maynard-Brown (Bradley
Brown) of Kansas City, MO, and Megan Taylor of Kansas City, MO; brothers Paul Ross of
Kansas City, MO and Christopher Ross (Bonita Ross) of Kansas City, MO; sisters Sandra
Ross, of Kansas City, MO and Patricia Ross (James Bryant) of Murray, UT; grandchildren
Alyssa Brown, of Kansas City, MO and Ayden Brown, of Kansas City, MO; a host of nieces,
nephews and extended family that will greatly miss her presence, wisdom, kind-hearted nature
