Delicia Jauneé Johnson, 17, was born March 3, 2001 to the proud parents Darreyl Johnson and Telecia Lee.
Delicia accepted Christ at the age of six at Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Meredith Sullivan. She was very active in the church and participated in the Sunbeams, the Junior Usher Ministry, and the Youth Ministry of which she became its president this year. Delicia praised danced and sang in the choirs at Bethel and Antioch Baptist Churches. She loved helping with the babies at the church.
Delicia held the office of 3rd Vice-President of the Kansas City Youth Mission. She was very active in the Kaw Valley District Youth Choir and Coffee House. She served as a Kaw Valley District Chorister / Devotional Leader. After completing Project 66, Phase I she completed the three steps of her Upward Climb and was currently working towards her Queen Step. She enjoyed attending the Kansas State Convention and Camp Ascension.
Delicia grew up in Kansas City, Kansas where she attended the public schools. In middle school, she ran track, played basketball, and was a cheerleader. She participated in the Math Relays, played the violin, and sang in the choir. At F.L. Schlagle where she was a junior, Delicia focused her attention on her academics, participated in the Math Relays, and was involved in the KU Talent Search. One of her ambitions was to become a cosmetologist. After graduation, her plans were to attend college to become a nurse.
During the summer, Delicia played various sports tor the Kansas City, Kansas Parks and Recreation. She loved to sing and dance. She was enrolled at the Rosie's Dance Academy and the D.M.B. Dance Studio.
Delicia loved her cell phone, her laptop, and going on vacations. She was a loving, kind-hearted person who loved her family and friends dearly. She was given several special nicknames: Dee-Dee, Missy, Dee-Dee Bop.
Delicia departed this life on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at KU Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents, Rev. Charles Lee, Sr. and Ola Mae Lee; great grandfather, Davy Lee, Sr.; paternal grandfather, Carl Johnson; grandmother, Debra J. Lee; uncles, Danté Thomas and Maurice Lee.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her father, Darreyl Johnson of Kansas City, KS; mother, Telicia Lee of Overland Park, KS; brother, Malcolm Lee-Pointer; sisters, Ashley Adebiyi and Jade Townsel all of Kansas City, KS; grandparents, Tyrone E. Lee of Kansas City, KS, Clarence and Jaunice Williams of Kansas City, MO, and Loretta Johnson of Anaheim, CA; great grandparents, Rev. Charles and Christine Kennybrew of Kansas City, KS, Betty Lee Coleman of Kansas City, MO, and Beatrice L. Lee of Kansas City, KS; uncles, Michael Stephens (Maria) of Boston, MA, Elonte' Akins of Denver, CO and Andre' Stephens of Kansas City, MO; aunts, Tamesha Lee of San Antonio, TX, Tiffany Jones of Lawrence, KS, Tyresha Lee of Lenexa, KS, Traci Lee of Kansas City, KS and a host of great uncles, great aunts, cousins, relatives and friends.
Funeral services Monday, May 21, 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Interment Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.Visits: 0
