Dennis Laroy Johnson, Sr., 62, KCMO, passed away on August 15, 2016. He was born March 20, 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri to Leo and Cecil D. Johnson who both preceded him in death. Dennis attended and completed his elementary education in the Kansas City, Missouri public school system. He graduated from Paseo High School, class of 1972. During his high school years he played baseball, lettering in football and wrestling as well. Dennis moved to Minnesota in 1977 where he began working for Honeywell. He worked for Honeywell for twenty years retiring in 1998, and returning back home to Kansas City, Missouri. After returning to Kansas City he became a member of New Birth Christian Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor James Wright, where he served faithfully on the Usher Board. He later became a member of Open Doors Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Rupert James, where he also served on the Usher Board as the Head Usher. Dennis transitioned from earth to glory on Monday, August 15th, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Dennis Laroy Johnson (Teneya); one daughter, Nakia Glynn (Carlton); two grandsons, Dallas and Elijah Glynn; three brothers, Gary Lee Johnson (Arnetta), Randy Eugene Johnson (Sandra), and Michael Stephen Johnson; two nephews, Randy Johnson and Timothy Johnson; four nieces, Geri Wright, Telisa Johnson, Tonda Johnson, and Cecil Johnson; four great nephews, two great nieces, a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 20, 11:00 a.m. at Heaven Sent Missionary Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church.
