Obituary

Dochia Lee Pettus was born on April 24, 1938 in Stephens, Arkansas to the late Otis and Clara Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Clara and all of her siblings: Marvin Walker, Marshall Walker, John D. Walker, her sisters: Mildred Walker-Hamilton, Milrene Walker-Todd, Emma Jean Walker-Todd and Yvonne Walker-Todd. Dochia attended Carver Elementary and High schools in Arkansas. She then went on to Shorter College in North Little Rock, Arkansas. While she attended Shorter College, she was ranked as the "Highest Scorer" on her basketball team. She transferred to Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, MO where she obtained her Associates Degree in Early Childhood education. From there, she obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Avila University in MO. She culminated her quest for excellence in education by receiving her Master's Plus degree from UMKC. Ms. Pettus was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and an dedicated servant of the Lord. Upon her early relocation to Kansas City from Arkansas, she united with the Emmanuel Baptist Church. She continued her service to God at the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church where she was a part of many ministries. She was called in to continued service at Bibleway Missionary Baptist Church. With a changing season of ministry, Dochia united with the Friendship Baptist Church where she attended faithfully until her health failed. Dochia was employed by the Kansas City Public Schools until she retired after 31 1/2 years of life-love teaching. She departed this life on April 5, 2020 at her home. She leaves to cherish her memory: her four children, Valeria Townsel (Martin), Eric Trotter, Phillip Trotter, and Patrick Trotter (Toni), 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Graveside service Thursday, April 9, 2020, 1:00 p.m. at XII Gates Cemetery. Service conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
