Obituary

Donna LeAnn Swopes - Hicks was born on January 20, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Jesse Daniel Hicks and Myrtle L. "Joan" Hicks. Donna is preceded in death by her beloved father and grandmother, Erma I. Owsley, Archie (Unc) and Christine (Chrismama) Lewis.

Donna attended The Barstow School and East High School matriculating in 1981. Donna was baptized and a member of Cain Grant A.M.E. and a faithful member of New Bethel A.M.E. church in Orlando, Florida where she served on the usher board. Donna was employed with JP Morgan & Chase as a Client Service Associate. In her spare time, Donna loved her old school music, tending to her plants, cooking, reading, attending her grandson's football games while watching her granddaughter cheer and regularly went to the gym. She volunteered her time serving others, particularly individuals with special needs and people who are homeless.

Donna was a joy to be around as she was funny, quick witted and had a smile that would light up any room. As a mother to her daughter Dani she was her truth teller, biggest fan and greatest supporter. As a sister she was devoted, protective and loving. Donna was fiercely independent and strong-willed – she was a fighter. Her favorite role was being "Grannymama" to Ahmari, Ava and God son Jaquavious.

She transitioned from this life peacefully surrounded by family and friends on February 22, 2020 at North Kansas City Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Kristan Danielle Meri Hicks, her mother Myrtle L.
