Obituary

Doris Grace Franklin, 89, was born October 16, 1926 in Texarkana, Arkansas to the late John and Jessie Stuckey. She was the fifth of eight siblings all of whom gone on to Glory. Doris matriculated to Kansas City, Kansas at a very young age where she lived with family. She was educated at Sumner High School and was a cosmetology graduate. Doris worked for HRC (Human Resources Corporation) as a Social Worker from 1969-1974 and was an esteemed employee of J. A. Brueningin the 1950's. In 1946, she married Wilbur Pennington, (deceased) and to that union four daughters were born. She later married Christley Franklin in 1981. Doris was a loving mother and doting grandmother. She always spoke so highly of her children and grandchildren. Doris was a member of St. James United Methodist Church for many years and also attended the churches of both of her sons-in-law in her latter years. She was an Eastern Star member and received many high accolades for her outstanding work as a Foster Grandparent, one in particular being the Foster Grandparent of the Year Award. Doris departed this earthly life on August 19, 2016. She will be sorely missed. She leaves to mourn her memory: four daughters, Rev. Dorisalene Hughes (Rev. Anthony), Wilma Pennington-Thurman, Jessica Pennington and Rev. Christine Pennington-Stancil (Rev. Clinton); nine grandchildren, Melissa Templeton (T.J.), Miles Thurman, Alicia Williams (Christian), Matthew Pennington, Brittany Pennington (Carlos) Clinton Stancil, Jr., Brandon Stancil, Blake Stancil, Bryan Stancil; sixteen great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 30, 11:00 a.m. at Willis Chapel A.M.E. Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
