Obituary

Doris Louise Miller was born to Tom and Maude Hoxie on April 23, 1929 in Cedartown, Georgia. She had four brothers Tom, Fred, Doc, and Jack, and four sisters Margaret McClendon, Essie Boone, Dean Hinton, and Erma Jackson, all of whom preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her late husband Roosevelt Miller, daughter in-law Elizabeth Ruth Miller and a grandson, Rev. Malcolm Stephens.

She moved to Kansas City in 1951, the same year she married Roosevelt with whom she shared 65 loving years. In 1955 their first child Mark Anthony Miller was born, followed by Trudy Elaine Lars in 1961. She is also celebrated in life, by stepson Barry Burdette and his wife Lois Burdette, daughter-in-law Silva Miller, grandchildren Zammone Lasker, Maurice Lars, Orlando Lars, and Marcia Miller, and step grandchildren Mark Burdette, Andrea Burdette, and Maya Gaines. Doris also had several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom she loved very much.

Doris lived a full and vibrant life. She attended Cedar Hill School in Cedartown, Georgia until she began working at a young age and helping family as she did for the rest of her life. Throughout her years she worked as a domestic assistant, cleaned houses, managed households, helped raise children, and provided many with friendship and companionship.

After moving to Kansas City, Doris attended Emmanuel Baptist Church, led by Bishop W.H. White, later joining Roosevelt at Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, led by his brother-in-law Rev. Albert L. Colbert. She was a loyal and active member of the church for over 40 years, singing in the choir, working in the kitchen, serving as the Treasurer for the Deacon and Trustees Wives, and being a part of the Delightful Group.

Throughout her life Doris enjoyed traveling with her husband and children. They often went to visit family in Georgia and Ohio, but also ventured to the Bahamas, Hawaii, California, Colorado, Florida and Texas. She liked housekeeping, Lifetime and Danielle Steele movies, and seeing plays. In her later years she spent many joyful days taking care of and playing with her great grandchildren Malik and Malachi. Doris left a legacy of joy, caring, and compassion that touched not only her family, but the entire community.
