Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Gilvia) Berryman, 84, of Raytown, Missouri, passed away on March 10, 2016. She was born September 5, 1931 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Patrick Gilvia and Mary L. Conner. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John L. Berryman; two siblings, Clara Degrate and Samuel Stanton; and one child, John Lester. Dorothy graduated from Scipio A. Jones High School in 1950. She accepted Christ at an early age, and later joined Shiloh Institutional Church of God In Christ, KCMO. Dorothy's lifelong passion was caring for children. She owned and operated a private day care for over forty years. Dorothy was united in marriage on February 3, 1951 to John L. Berryman in Pueblo, Colorado; and to their union six children were born. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: five children, Greta (Richard) of Raytown, MO, Myra (Curtis) of KCMO, Johnetta (Tyrone) of Raytown, MO, Leonard of Baton Rouge, LA and Dorothy of Raytown, MO; grandchildren, YaLonda, Curtis Jr., Ebony, LaKeia, Brittney, Maurice, Ira, Jasmine, Jarrel, Nicholas, Shanette, Trevon and Edward Jr.; nineteen great grandchildren, four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, March 18, 11:00 a.m. at New Vision Christian Church. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on this website.
