Dorris Garlington, KCMO, passed away on August 14, 2017 at the home. She was born September 4, 1956 to Milton Hill and Mildred Ellison in Wabbaseka, Arkansas. At an early age she confessed her faith in Christ. The family then moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1959. Affectionately known as 'Button', she completed her education in the Kansas City, Missouri public schools. She continued with her faith in Christ at Spirit of Truth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her uncle, Pastor E. Frank Ellison. She was a dedicated member until her health began to fail. Dorris worked several jobs throughout the Kansas City area, most recently being employed by Embassy Property until her health continued to decline. Button was also an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her family and friends. Dorris met the love of her life, Ladell Garlington, in the early 80's and the two were united in marriage on December 22, 1990. No children were born to this union. Dorris was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Washington (Albert); maternal grandparents, Sam and Lillie Ellison; special aunt, Boobie Broom; brothers-in-law, Rufus Garlington, Sherman Garlington, Thurman Garlington, Leon Garlington and Avon Garlington; sister-in-law, Mary Alice; nephew, Stephen Washington; niece, Cydria Graham (Michael) and a host of other relatives. She leaves to cherish her fond memory: her husband, Ladell Garlington; five children, Damon (Tyvette), Mekel, Dominick, Davon and Brandy (Demetris); eight grandchildren, Deon Washington, Damon Washington, Robert Washington, Da'Janax Washington, Da'Monika Washington, Domarion Washington, Dontrell Washington and Jada Martin; four brothers, Harold Ellison (Carolyn), Ronnie Ellison (Debra), Albert Washington (Lucille) and Michael Washington (Melissa); three sisters, Min. Debra Darrington (Allen), Sherry Washington and Shantay Washington; four uncles, Pastor E. Frank Ellison (Queen), Johnnie Ellison (Willa), Eddie Ellison and Leceister Ellison (Patricia); three aunts, Dorothy Dawson, Alice Taylor (Andrew) and Rhett Fowler (Raymond); three nephews, Ronnie Ellison, Jr., Harold Ellison, Jr. and Robert Washington; five nieces, Lashonda Collins, Lakita Washington, Lillie Washington, Henrisha Washington and Cierra Washington; three special cousins, Myrtle Ellison, Linda Evans and Henry Ellison; four brothers-in-law, Benjamin Garlington (Mae Ester), Wayne Garlington (Juliet), Truman Garlington (Marzetta) and Allen Darrington (Debra); six sisters-in-law, Dorothea Daniels (James), Vanessa Spencer, Lillian Moore (Wilburn), Carolyn Ellison (Harold), Debra Ellison (Ronnie) and Melissa Washington (Michael); best friend, Alma Verser and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, August 26, 11:00 a.m. at Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the chapel. Services conducted by Duane E.
