Obituary

Duryl J. Trigg, 68, passed away on August 26, 2018. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 12, 1950. Duryl was preceded in death by his parents, William Harold Trigg and Gloria Lee Trigg. He will be interred near his mother, uncle and aunt, Joseph and Irene Johnson.

Duryl was raised in the Catholic religion. He graduated from Central High School and continued his studies receiving an Associate's degree in Philosophy from Penn Valley Community College. He masterfully studied as a jazz bassist at the renowned Charlie Parker School of Music as well as juggled as many classes in electronics that he could manage. Duryl was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Duryl enlisted in and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy after completing his tour of duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga during the Vietnam War. Duryl was the prototypical family scientist and musician. He collected Marvel comics, built model aircraft, experimented with rocketry, and was a budding astronomer; he had several telescopes. While Duryl's scientific curiosity waned after he was discharged, his musicianship blossomed. Duryl was jazz bassist for a local R&B group titled,

"Have Soul, Will Travel", before and after his tour of duty. Before attending the Charlie Parker School of Music, Duryl played entirely by ear. Any R&B or jazz bassist knows of the licks laid down in Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On" album. To this day, there isn't a single bass line from that album that doesn't make you think of Duryl's mastery of the music; one of the most naturally talented musicians ever. Duryl could also play drums and lead guitar. When he played, his sound was very majestic and very entertaining whether on stage or within the comforts of home. This love of music was a companion to him throughout his life even after deciding to pass his knowledge to his son.

Duryl was a compassionate and intellectual man, a good and extremely heartfelt man. He held love for his family, his mother the most paramount.

Duryl is survived by his only child, Maurice Harold Trigg (Maurice's mother, Priscilla O'Toole); wife, Shameka Trigg; two grandchildren, Spirit and Rapheal; brother Marlon (Kae); sister, Norma; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
