Obituary

Dwight Austin, Sr., 59, KCKS, passed away on October 16, 2017 at the University of Kansas Hospital. The older of identical twins, he was born August 18, 1958 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Anthony and Jessie Mae Austin. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Austin, Sr. and Dwayne Austin; two uncles, Joseph Eckwood and Lawrence Eckwood; an aunt, Pecolia Eckwood and a niece, Traci Foster. While living in Arkansas, Dwight received his formal education in the public school system. He was united in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Y. Hollinshed on June 13, 1987 and to this union two sons were born, Dwight Jr. and Gerald. Dwight was employed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Olathe School District 233. He accepted Christ at an early age and was ordained as a Minister at Mt. Carmel Church of God in Christ. He also ministered at Bethel Church of God in Christ, where he served as the media coordinator and sang in the choir with one of his favorite songs being, "Jesus Will Fix It". As a hobby, Dwight would video tape weddings, work on and detail cars, and operate his own lawn service. He leaves to celebrate his homegoing: two sons, Dwight Austin, Jr. and Gerald Austin, Sr. (Samantha); one brother, Stanley Austin (Doris) of Little Rock, AR; four sisters, Barbara Howard (Lawrence), Garnett Foster (Biddie), Martha Ann Foster of Arkansas and Anthony Marie Johnson; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, October 21, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Highland Park Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
