Obituary

Earl Lee Guy, 64, passed away on October 23, 2016. He was born September 12, 1952 in Dumas, Arkansas to the union of James and Pearlene (Franklin) Guy. His parents; two brothers, Decortis Sanders and Roy Guy; and a son, LaChristian Guy preceded him in death. Earl was educated in the public schools of Dumas, Arkansas and later moved to the Kansas City area where he would make his home over the next forty-six years. He was employed by Unilever as a palletizer operator for over seventeen years. He also volunteered for numerous companies and sponsored several community projects and fundraisers. Earl gave his life to Christ in 1989 and was a member of Calvary Temple Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Eric D. Williams. While wearing many hats within the church, he was ordained as a deacon in February 1995. He truly strived to be a good and faithful servant. Earl made sure his grandsons knew Christ and instilled in them the importance of right from wrong and making positive decisions that would help them excel in life. Earl had the pleasure of running in the Macy's 10K Marathon in 1983, where he placed in the top 100 runners. This accomplishment was later recognized in photos publicly displayed at City Hall. Earl also took pride in grooming and making sure his cars and equipment were always in top notch condition. As a pastime he enjoyed watching football, basketball and boxing with his wife and grandsons, and grilling for family and friends during holidays and gatherings. Earl was a standup kind of guy who would go out of his way to help anyone he could; no job was too big or small for Earl! His biggest contribution was making sure his wife was safe and happy, and that his children and grandchildren had nothing but the best. To know him was to love him, without a doubt. He was above all, a loving husband, father, grandfather, co-worker, neighbor and friend. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Gwendolyn Guy; two daughters, Angela Guy and Keowa Willis-Norton (Cedric); seven siblings, John Guy, Freddie Guy, Josephine Richmond, Hosie Guy (Erma), Delois Swygert (Thomas), Melvin Randolph and Marvin Randolph; seven grandchildren, Arlando Jr., Arlonn, Tyrell, Kevaughn, Lamazhanea, Brandie and Sharod; and a host of great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 29, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors. Condolences may be shared on our website.
