Obituary

Edith Johnson was born August 19, 1934 to Carl Sr. and Leona Jenkins in Kansas City, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl Sr. and Leona Jenkins, George and Madeline Austin , Kenneth and Frances Ray, Damon Jenkins, Izetta Chambers, Linda Porter, Byron Johnson (son), Robert Johnson(grandson), Jael Johnson(Great-Great grandchild) and best friend Pearl Banks.

She was a dedicated student at R.T. Coles Vocational High School where she majored in fashion. After retiring from a toy factory she became a teacher at St. James Day Care. Afterwards Mama Johnson's adult/child safe haven was opened. As a firm believer in Christ she left a legacy of God first with a dash of selflessness, faithfulness, beauty, nurturing, unconditional love, and strength. She was a faithful member of Spruce St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor George Barnes Jr.

Countless times she assisted in feeding, clothing, and giving shelter for those who were homeless, broken, and motherless. Singing unto the lord was her passion and she was a proud member of the group Calveretts. She was fearless and covered her family in prayer daily.

The holidays were very special as the family gathered waiting on her famous sweet potato pies. Her face would light up as everyone arrived in their new outfits, especially the children. Edith Johnson's words were never mixed, and voice was always heard. Her red comb has officially been retired.

Her legacy lives on through, sisters; Anna Jenkins, Gloria Abernathy, Brothers; Leonard Jenkins , Carl Jenkins Jr. (Brenda); Children; Sharon Jolly , Gloria Johnson, Glenda Johnson, Carlton Johnson (Sylvia), Anthony Johnson (Debra), Victoria Rawls (Garry); Step-children Gloria Green-Johnson, Tommie Lee Johnson (Mary), Raymond Johnson, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
